Mrs Shirinkhanu Nazarali Lalani passes away: Oldest member of the Uganda Asian CommunityI send you my heart-felt condolences on the passing away of family head Mrs Shirinbai Lalani, the oldest member of the Uganda Asian community in Uganda, with the unique distinction that she could count having seen seven generations of the family in Uganda. She was someone I made a point of meeting at the Jamatkhana and sometimes at her home. Samosas would be offered, with Marie bhiskut and tea. Two years ago nearer her 90th birthday we sat together to do her and family story for my book. Her memory was sharp for places and people. We took three rounds over it, when she wanted to put in additional material. The story became part of her 90th birthday celebrations, when H E the President sent her a message of birthday greetings. Last year Shirinbai was the proud recipient of Uganda’s Golden Jubilee Medal in recognition of the seven-generation family presence in Uganda. I had promised her I would include that fact in any public proceedings to do with my book. Her pride knew no bounds.

She leaves behind an adoring family whose contributions continue in Uganda.

May Allah rest her soul in eternal peace and grant solace to the family to overcome this loss.
