
Aga Khan University Hospital hosts 40 technicians for the first training under lab skills Africa programme
Coastweek– Aga Khan University Hospital hosted 40 laboratory technicians from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe for the first training under the Lab Skills Africa Programme.
This is a two year collaboration involving 13 partners in the UK and Africa and is funded through a 1.1 million dollars grant from the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
Dr Shahin Sayed, Secretary General College of Pathologists of East, Central and Southern Africa (COPECSA), Consultant Pathologist and Assistant Professor at the Aga Khan University Hospital, explained, “The aim of this scheme is to contribute towards the improvement of clinical decision making and increase patient safety through measures designed to raise the standards and quality of laboratory services and tests to international standards. The Lab Skills Africa Programme supports the diagnosis and management of health conditions related to Millennium Development Goals 4, 5 and 6.”
