That article was no doubt inspired by the landmark study published last year by a group of Spanish researchers in The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). The PREDIMED study proved that the Mediterranean lifestyle of walking, cycling, doing lots of gardening and outdoor work combined with eating fish, grains, legumes, lots of fruits and vegetables topped up with a good dose of olive oil and a handful of nuts here and there is effective primary prevention from death from cardiovascular disease.
