Jubilee Arcade, Mombasa was recently visited by Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa.
Nairobi, 17 January 2014 – On Friday, in Kenya’s coastal city of Mombasa, Prince Rahim inaugurated the newly restored Jubilee Arcade. The building, which first housed the Jubilee Insurance company over 60 years ago, now includes a vibrant, modern arcade shopping and office complex situated in the heart of the city’s busy Moi Avenue.
Description: The Jubilee Insurance building was designed as a glorious landmark on Moi Avenue Mombasa in 1949. Over time, this glory was lost due to lack of sufficient maintenance and general building deterioration. The building was currently dull, generating low income and with a nearly dead arcade. It is against this backdrop that Symbion and its team of consultants reviewed the entire building with an aim of rejuvenating the lost glory of this building. The design solutions recreated the arcade area creating an important in-door space and enhancing it to create the necessary level of attraction and vitality. A skylight was considered in the arcade to bring in an overcast light experience into the arcade thereby enhancing more interest within the building. The basement cellars were converted into critical tenant basement parking spaces. Back up electrical and mechanical services have been considered in the refurbishment. The JIB offices are being refurbished on third floor and are designed to meet modern office concept, flexible, open, and attractive to customers.
