According to the latest figures the food division has recorded an increase of 3.5 per cent in the 21 weeks to June 15.

Ali Kurji, chief executive of the Heart of England Co-operative Society, said he was pleased with the performance despite the tough trading environment.
But he warned he continues to remain cautious as competition continues to grow, both across the Society’s trading area and on the internet.
He said: “I am delighted our first half year has achieved positive results but we are certainly not in any position to become complacent.
