P
rofessor Nizar Hirji (pictured) has been appointed as consulting optometric adviser by the Public Health Department of Walsall. The appointment reflects the recognition of the importance of an eye health needs assessment, and its inclusion in any health needs analysis.
Commenting on his appointment, Professor Hirji said: “For the first time, preventable sight loss has been included as an indicator in Public Health England’s outcomes framework. I am therefore really excited to be working with the diverse team of public health experts at Walsall, to better understand local eye health needs to prevent avoidable sight loss.”
