San Antonio: Walk to spotlight global poverty - San Antonio Express-NewsLocal volunteers for a national foundation are organizing a walk/run on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Sunset Station, 1174 E. Commerce St., to raise awareness about global poverty.

The Partnership Walk/Run is an effort of the Washington, D.C.-based Aga Khan Foundation, which began it in Los Angeles in 1995. Last year, there were 10 such walks nationwide, including in San Antonio with an estimated 3,000 people who helped raise $300,000, organizers said.

The foundation is a nonprofit organization that works with a variety of agencies and raises funds to provide aid to the poor. Registration for the run begins at 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. for the walk.
