Aga Khan Foundation Awards Program to Aid Rural Malian FarmersProgram to Build Local Business Capacity, Strengthen Farming Co-ops and Associations

Situated at the edge of the Sahara, Mali’s Mopti region faces a number of challenges including widespread poverty and low farm production due to challenging weather conditions. Food insecurity and malnutrition are commonplace.

Strengthening Food Security in Mopti

To strengthen food security and improve local agricultural capacity in Mopti, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has funded a third phase of the Mopti Coordinated Area Development Program under the Food for Progress program. Aga Khan Foundation, the lead implementer, has awarded ACDI/VOCA approximately $2.9 million to conduct agricultural improvement activities as part of the program.

ACDI/VOCA, in collaboration with the Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance, and the Aga Khan Foundation, Mali, will train and strengthen local cooperatives and associations and increase local capacity by improving business management skills.
