Dr. Zahra Bardai: Laughter: just what the doctor ordered | Good News Toronto

Dr. Zahra BardaiTo make a long story short, I’ve had to take a forced hiatus from most of my activities in the last three months. (Thank you, readers, for understanding my silence since June.) To be perfectly honest, as the pressure cooker of life events starts to shake, rattle and roll, there have been days when I’m not sure whether I should laugh or cry. I know I’m not the only one who feels like the “to do” list gets longer and longer as the days get shorter and shorter. Despite the recommended aids I’ve been using to combat stress in the last several weeks, the only thing that felt truly liberating was when my son, who wants to dress up as Dracula this Halloween, asked me to practice making “evil laughter” with him. Trying to conjure up a great big diaphragmatic low-pitched drawn-out laugh resulted in a case of the giggles for both of us, which turned out to be the best medicine to de-stress.
