By Jennifer Duda: College of DuPage student Umair Shah of Wheaton has been named a 2013 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Gold Scholar.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society administers the program and recognizes Coca-Cola Community College scholars during All-State Community College Academic Team Recognition ceremonies held in 38 states.
As a Gold Scholar, Shah receives a $1,500 scholarship and a special medallion. The 20-year-old said he’ll use the money to continue his education at Southern Illinois University after graduating from COD in May.
“I graduated high school a year early with the intent to double major. I planned an extra year of college to accomplish the things I set out to do and I’m still working toward that,” the third year COD student said. “I’ve always been interested in the automotive industry and ultimately I’d like to manage a dealership or have something of my own.”
