For three years, Sheliza Kassam has celebrated her birthday in giving style. Every Jan. 24, Kassam and her family and friends have organized, sponsored, cooked and served a meal to families at Inn From the Cold.
“But this year when I called to organize it, about a month before my 16th birthday, they told me that day was full,” she recalls. At first she was quite upset, but then she realized that she could create something different, something that would be meaningful to both her and the children at the Inn.
“It was 3 a.m. and I couldn’t sleep, and I was thinking about this and I thought, why not create an organization that gives birthday parties?”
And Children’s Birthday Miracles was born.
