Alim Nagji: Small changes in lifestyle can yield huge results

The burden of chronic disease in Canada posses a significant threat – both to costs and to the health of individuals.

Luckily, small changes in lifestyle can yield huge results. For example, quitting smoking, as daunting a task as that may be, actually has huge benefits in terms of lifespan, decreasing cancer risk, improving overall heart and lung health, while also preventing loved ones from being exposed to toxic substances.

In Slave Lake we have a variety of programs that can support individuals looking to make strides towards improving their overall health.

This article was originally submitted in the second week of May 2011, when the author was doing a practicum at the Slave Lake Health Care Centre. Due to certain disastrous events that occurred in Slave Lake, it never appeared and was forgotten about until recently.
