A gathering of students brought experiences from over a dozen countries across the world to the Education Abroad Poster Symposium on Oct. 26.
Rabia Bana from the School of Public Health discussed her time in Botswana, where resources are low and the HIV rate is high. Bana said that while she was initially unsure about the program, she stayed for four months and gradually came to appreciate it.
“At the end, I said to myself, ‘This is what I want to be doing.’ That was really fulfilling for me because it started off really frustrating and slow and I wasn’t quite sure what I had gotten myself into, but it evolved into something so amazing,” she said.
“I feel like my education is giving me skills that I can use in the developing world, but also in low-resource settings here.”
