When many of the 140 players entered in the Pacific Tennis Club Summer Junior Tournament hit the courts for first-round matches Monday, many of them will see a venue that has undergone significant changes from when they played this tournament a year ago.
The most obvious change is visible driving in the parking lot of the 10-court facility located on Lakeview Canyon Road in Westlake Village. A new, 1,236-square-foot clubhouse, more than twice the size of the old one, was completed last month, and inside the grounds many other improvements to the courts and landscaping are quite noticeable.
New owner Abdul Manji, who purchased the club last May and has built an excellent relationship with neighboring Westlake Village Inn, has hired several new outstanding teaching pros, expanded the junior and recreational programs and generated a lot of enthusiasm among the club’s 162 members.
Manji, a Simi Valley resident who enjoyed a long and successful career in the hotel business, is also eager to see Westlake Village Inn Tennis Club, with the help of neighboring clubs, take the lead in bringing another top-level tournament to Ventura County.
