Hearts, Minds & Vision tells the story of a dedicated group of people with extraordinary talents, skills, knowledge, experience, ideas, and energy and their impact on cardiovascular sciences-patient care, research and teaching, cardiac surgery, and the biochemical, physiological, pharmacological, and other aspects of the cardiovascular system-in Calgary, Canada. In the process it mirrors the remarkable global changes that have occurred in these fields during the last eighty years and the Calgary contributions to this progress. These people were (and are) like the rest of us, with families, health issues, worries about making a living, and other personal challenges. They worked within the constraints of differing and constantly changing political, historical, financial, and technological confines. But they turned up day after day, year after year, decade after decade, to practice their craft and try to make a difference-and they did.
