Memphis Mayor A C Wharton is to give the keynote address Saturday at a fundraiser dinner to fight poverty in Africa and Asia.
The PartnershipsInAction Dinner, sponsored by Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A., is part of a 1995 initiative to end hunger, illiteracy and health problems in impoverished countries that has raised more than $48 million. PartnershipsInAction officials expect to raise $200,000 more in The Peabody Grand Ballroom.
Miami Heat basketball player Mike Miller also will speak, and Pakistani singer Amanat Ali will perform.
All donations will go to projects in India, Afghanistan, Asia, Africa and other countries. For more information visit partnershipsinaction.org.
