After being held in Dallas and Plano, the Dallas Partnership Walk took place this year at the Irving Convention Center. On Saturday, about 4,500 people participated in the annual event, a fundraiser for the Aga Khan Foundation USA. The foundation raises awareness and funds to reduce poverty, hunger, illiteracy and poor health in Africa and Asia.“As a mayor, as a citizen, we very much appreciate everything you do to contribute to the community to be family, to put youth first and to really push forward,” Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne said in welcoming the crowd.Another speaker, Nick Jivani, chairs the foundation’s volunteer team for North Texas.“It is always heartwarming to witness thousands of passionate local residents enjoy this vibrant day as they support AKF and its work to end poverty around the globe,” Jivani said.Organizers say they raised about $790,000 from this year’s event, which included an art exhibit and displays that featured foundation projects.
