Altaf Sovani Will Receive The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal

School of Hospitality & Tourism Chair Altaf Sovani has been selected to receive a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal at a special ceremony in Burnaby, B.C. on September 8.

“I felt humbled, excited and honored. To be recognized with such a prestigious award is surreal,” Altaf says. “I do my job because I love to work with and for the students. Their success is my success and to be rewarded for doing my job is very heartwarming. I was in shock when I received the news and now I am in awe of this recognition. It means more than words can explain.”

Sovani was nominated by The Honourable Mobina S.B. Jaffer, Q.C. under the category of “Educator”. He received word on Friday of last week that he had been selected for this honour. Altaf plans on proudly displaying the award in a frame in his office.

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada, and represents a tangible way for Canada to honour the significant contributions and achievements made by Canadians.
