Sabrina Dewji’s initiative to help fund the Tanzania Schools Project

Sabrina Dewji's initiative to help fund the Tanzania Schools ProjectA few students from Queens’s University and I, are heading to Tanzania March 9th, 2012 to teach in Butiama Village in an underdeveloped school. The Tanzania Schools Project is targeted to fundraise in funding the school and the students to help them pay for their tuition fees. All of the money donated goes directly to the students and educational initiatives in the community. I’m excited to take on this adventure knowing that I’m doing it for the kids of Butiama village!

Knowing that I am able to help in providing an education to a child, inspires me to follow through in projects like this. I am passionate about this project because as a teacher I am to support and empower any and every child in what they believe they want to do. Throughout my life, I found value in supporting people, I found value in giving guidance, I found value in passing on my knowledge to another, in other words I found value in teaching. I want to continue to find that value, in an underdeveloped country where I am able to witness the impact I can create on each student in Butiama Village.

Below is information about the Tanzania Schools Project:

It is an organization that is affiliated with Queen’s University where teacher candidates travel to Tanzania annually to teach at rural schools and provide resources and scholarships to students in the village. There are currently 79 students on full academic scholarship at the secondary school and they have provided resources such as textbooks, computers, school uniforms, sports equipment, clean drinking water tanks etc.
