Forty youths from the Khoja community in the city will perform on Dec 26
The Khoja Band in the city is gearing up to perform at the annual Kankaria Carnival which is starting next week. The peculiarity of this band is that it is the first all-Muslim band that will perform at Carnival. The band members belong to the Khoja Community. They are thankful to Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
Around 40 boys from Kankaria, Shah-e-Alam and Sarkhej, have started practising for their performance at Carnival on December 26.
“Most of the band members are students. They gather after their school and college hours and practise earnestly for the events. This is the first time that a Muslim band has been given the opportunity to perform at Carnival, all thanks to Modi’s Sadbhavna fast,” said Renish Hemani, Chairman of Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board which handles the band.
The band will recreate tunes like ‘Jolly Good Fellow’, ‘Welcome tune’, ‘Highway’, ‘Cow-boy’, ‘Local tune’ with the help of drums, flute, base drum, side base drum, treble and plates.
“I am eager to play the tunes at Carnival. We have been practising religiously. We are planning to play the tune “Jolly Good fellow” for Modi sir. This is a tune which is played to congratulate and hail a victor,” said Gaurav Gilani, the band master.
