World Sight Day observed: Early diagnosis can prevent blindness

Aga Khan University’s Flood Relief EffortsKARACHI: ‘The delay in diagnosis of visual impairment lead to blindness while 80 percent of people with cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and diabetes-related blindness can be avoided or cured through timely diagnosis and proper treatment.’

Health experts stated this at a seminar held at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) to mark the World Sight Day on Thursday.

The eye specialists said cataract remains one of the principal causes of blindness for all age groups even though they are more common in older people in developing countries.
