14 September 2011 The Ismaili Centre in South Kensington looks set to welcome a host of new visitors on Sunday 18 September, when it takes part in the Open House London weekend.
Every September, Open House London gives people the opportunity to experience more than 700 of the capital’s most prestigious and architecturally significant buildings and spaces for free. Opened in 1985, The Ismaili Centre was the first religious, cultural and social space for the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslim community in the west. It is now one of a family of five centres internationally, with a sixth due to open in Toronto soon.
Designed by the Casson Conder Partnership, the London building draws upon Islamic traditions in architecture and geometrical design while adapting them to the context of a metropolitan city.
