Dr. Zaheer Lakhani: Big names sign on for Alberta health-care investigation

EDMONTON – The Health Quality Council of Alberta has landed some heavy hitters to sit on its advisory panel into the investigation of allegations of patient deaths on lung surgical waiting lists and bad outcomes for those who waited too long for emergency care -snip-

Dr. Zaheer Lakhani, a cardiologist at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and Order of Canada recipient, will join the advisory team, as will Art Price, CEO of Calgary-based Axia NetMedia Corporation, and Dr. Simon Sutcliffe, president of the International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research.

Zaheer Lakhani, CM, MD, FRCP, is a cardiologist with the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton and a clinical professor with the University of Alberta’s Department of Medicine.

Dr. Lakhani was awarded the Order of Canada in 2007 for his commitment to multiculturalism and international development. As a representative of the local Ismaili Muslim community, he has advocated for programs to assist in the settlement and integration of these new Canadians. He also promoted a proactive model of community policing as chair of the Edmonton Police Commission and founding president of the Canadian Association of Police Boards.
