Ismaili journalist to speak at volunteer appreciation galaSouth Stormont – Sultan Jessa, a retired Ismaili journalist living in Montreal, will be the keynote speaker at the 2011 volunteer appreciation gala dinner to be held in Long Sault, On, April 15.

Highlight of the Krystal and Kandy gala will be the presentation of the Fran Laflamme 2010 Volunteer of the Year Award.

Jessa has received numerous awards from provincial and federal government, including the Order of Canada for 35 years of community service.

Last year, the journalist was presented with the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants of the 2010 award.

“It is quite an honour to be selected to speak at this prestigious event,” said Jessa.

This gala dinner is held annually to recognize many volunteers in the Township of South Stormont.

Born in Tanzania, Jessa came to Canada in 1973.

He was named Cornwall’s top citizen in 1979 and is also the recipient of Queen Elizabeth’s silver and golden jubilee medals.
