Faizel Rawji named one of Canada's outstanding school principal for 2011FAIZEL Rawji of Surrey’s Chantrell Creek Elementary at 2575 – 137th Street is one of only four principals selected from B.C. as “Canada’s Outstanding Principals for 2011” by The Learning Partnership organization in Toronto.

Of the 32 principals selected from all over Canada, Rawji is the only South Asian. Rawji was only three years old when his family moved to Canada from Nairobi, Kenya. He’s been with the Surrey school district for five years. Before that he was a teacher in Coquitlam.

He told Asian Journal this week: “I do feel honoured not just by this award but with the people I work with every day. The honour is one that is shared by the entire community because of the work that they do.
