DUSHANBE, Dec 23 – Tajikistan’s two largest mobile phone operators, both controlled by Nordic firm TeliaSonera , will install 4G-standard communications in the country in 2011, a local company official said on Thursday.
The new wireless standard enables better Internet access including video.
TeliaSonera holds 60 percent and 59.4 percent respectively of the two operators, Indigo-Tajikistan and Indigo-Somoncom, which operate under the Tcell brand. The other shareholder is the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development.
Altogether the two operators provide mobile communications to a total of over 2 million subscribers in the Central Asian nation of 7.5 million.
