Dr. Hanif Jamal has always wanted to make a difference and give back to his community. A trained family physician, he is now a hospitalist at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and provides primary and acute care to patients. Dr. Jamal graduated from McMaster University’s medical school in 2004 and completed his residency in 2006, but he still has vivid memories of what it was like to be a new physician.
Being thrown into a world where he was expected to hire staff, negotiate salaries, pay off student debt and find the confidence required in the early days of his medical career were all overwhelming thoughts for a new grad.
“I didn’t come from a family of medical professionals and I always wished I had more guidance about some of the more daunting tasks I was faced with once I had my own practice. It was a very challenging time.”
