WATERLOO — The 18th annual Kitchener-Waterloo World Partnership Walk has a new location this year. And, it is aiming high with its goals to combat global poverty.

Taking place Sunday at the Waterloo Public Square, organizers of the three-kilometre walk are hoping to raise $125,000 for the world’s impoverished, and are out to show it takes more than money to escape poverty.

“In Canada, we often hear about poverty and say, ‘Well let’s give them money,’ ” said Basheer Habib, convenor for this year’s walk. “But global poverty is not just money. It’s not having access to health, to education, to civil services. It’s not having the freedom to escape the poverty trap. This walk works to show people that.”
