EMC Business – Thanks to caring businesses – like I.D.A. in Carleton Place, the World Partnership Walk (WPW), which recently marked a milestone – 25 years, continues to build long-term, maintainable solutions that help lessen global poverty.
The WPW is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC), which is based in Ottawa. The Walk, the biggest event of its kind in Canada, attracts tens of thousands of participants and raises millions of dollars.
Esmail Merani and Aziz Dhalla, owners/pharmacists of the Carleton Place Drug Mart, as well as locations in Richmond and Stittsville, have supported and participated in the Walk year after year. On Jan. 14, AKFC formally recognized the compassionate duo for their outstanding commitment. Representing the Foundation was Shakeel Hirji, director of operations, along with Zahed Lalani, regional campaign manager.
“Carleton Place Drug Mart has been a supporter of the event for 25 years,” said Lalani. “Since its 20th anniversary, Esmail and Aziz have sponsored the Walk by providing $25,000 (silver level sponsor) annually. Moreover, Esmail and Aziz have always had a World Partnership Walk corporate team in place, whereby their entire staff comes together to raise awareness and funds for international development.”
“We all get together and walk,” said Dhalla, referring to the cohesive staff at I.D.A. “It makes me really proud to see the support.”
the World Partnership Walk is a very positive step by its patrons, especially the AKFC that is known for supporting similar events throughout the world. More such walks should be organized.
