Afghanistan and Carrollton link up for charity

Afghanistan and Carrollton link up in the cartography of charity through the Aga Khan Development Network

Nov 17, 2009 – A northwest province of Afghanistan might seem to be a far-flung match for a certain religious center in northwest Carrollton.

But in the cartography of charity, there’s a link. It’s the Geneva-based Aga Khan Development Network, the philanthropic and economic development arm of Ismaili Muslims. And the largest North Texas jamatkhana, as Ismaili spiritual and social centers are known, sits in Carrollton near Trinity Mills Road. The jamatkhana is one of four in North Texas. This region is now home to about 10,000 Ismailis, a Shia sect with the Muslim religion.
