I paid a quick visit to the nearby Ismaili mosque, called a Jamaatkhana, just to see how it was – pretty amazing. And it was packed, which was hardly surprising given the fact that Dar es Salaam has a large population of Ismailis (Ismailism is a sect of Shia Islam). The Ismaili population in Tanzania is largely of South Asian origin, but it has existed here for generations.
