Mangalji family endows sports pavillion at Ryde School, Isle of Wight, UK

By David Newble – Thursday, June 4, 2009

PRESENT and former staff and pupils, as well as local dignitaries, were among the special guests who attended Ryde School to celebrate the opening of the school’s new sports pavilion.

Former headteacher of the school, Keith Symons — after whom the pavilion is named — cut the ribbon at the ceremony.
The new pavilion took four months to build and cost £370,000.

A large donation towards the cost came from the hotel chain-owning Mangalji family. Six members have attended the school, including brothers Moez and 1972 head boy Majid, who had both excelled at sport at school and were guests of honour at the ceremony.

The Friends of Ryde School had also supported the pavilion project.

The new building contains changing rooms for home and away teams and a small kitchen area, as well as a balcony that looks out over the rugby pitch.
