The latest issue of Foreign Policy magazine contains a “Global Cities Index”: 60 cities that exude “power, sophistication, wealth and influence.”
Ottawa isn’t on it.
Toronto, though, squeaked into the top 10, which is impressive. New York, London and Paris took the top three spots.

Another of the people working hardest to make Ottawa a global city isn’t even an Ottawan: the Aga Khan. The Ismaili Muslim spiritual leader, and the head of an impressive international development network, has chosen Sussex Drive as the home of two new institutions. The Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat, which opened in December, is a kind of embassy for Ismaili Muslims, and is the first of its kind anywhere. Down the street, in the former war museum, the Aga Khan is creating a Global Centre for Pluralism.
These are the kind of institutions that can make Ottawa an exciting city that will pull people here from all over the world.
