I thought what 10-year-old Jarad Hauck did was admirable. Last Thursday, a group of my friends also did a head shave for the second time this year. The impressive part wasn’t the amount of money they raised, or the fact it was the second time they did it, but rather the number of people who participated. Originally, only four students from Foundations for the Future Charter Academy were planning to shave their heads. However, the perseverance of those four students was contagious, and by the time the head shave came around, not only did they have participants from different schools across Calgary, but even people who weren’t shaving their heads came to FFCA to support all the people who were “shaving their lid for a kid.” The number of people who participated in the head shave made it a success by anyone’s standards, and to top it all off, they exceeded their original goal of $3,500, and raised more than $10,000 as of Saturday.
