Educational reform should be guided by research to make policies that can resolve issues being faced by the education system in Pakistan today, said Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai, Chairman, Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi (BIEK).
Zai was speaking at a policy dialogue on Educational Policy Reform, held at Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED).
“Education in developing countries needs repositioning, envisioning, and reshaping to address the challenges of globalisation, a growing knowledge society and knowledge-based economy,” he stated.
Highlighting the importance of research, Dr Muhammad Memon, Director, AKU-IED, spoke about the various initiatives of the institute to develop and build the professional capacity of teachers and to facilitate a culture of research and scholarship in the country.
Dr William Doe, Provost, AKU emphasised that just as it is the government’s responsibility to facilitate strategies for the implementation of reforms in education, civil society and educational institutions should also be responsible for enhancing their own knowledge on a continuing basis.
