Jaffer breaks silence to admit defeat

–excerpts–

Ousted Edmonton Strathcona MP Rahim Jaffer broke his post-election silence yesterday and conceded defeat to NDP rival Linda Duncan.

Jaffer, 36, had not spoken publicly in the day and a half since he was narrowly booted from office in Tuesday’s election, making him the only Conservative to be defeated in Alberta.

Jaffer was the first Ismaili Muslim elected to Parliament.
