Pakistan: AKSWB’s Awareness program in the wake of ‘World No Tobacco’ Day

As part of its Golden Jubilee initiatives, Aga Khan Social Welfare Board for Pakistan in collaboration with Serena Hotels SEED Program (Event Partner), World Population Foundation, (Training Partner) and Tapal Tea (Sponsor), for prevention of substance abuse organized a three days awareness program in the wake of World No Tobacco Day. The program held from May 29 -31, 2008 at Gahkuch Ghizer.

The three days event consists of individual programs for Teachers, Youth and Community Members. The program was Internationally-proven life skills based education to help participants shape a better life, free from substances. Workshops were held on the first two days, and the Youth Advocacy Network was launched on the second day. A walk was organized on the third day.

At the closing ceremony a colorful cultural event was arranged and the theme was highlighted through tableau, skits and dramas, and songs against drugs abuse by local and regional artists. Special prizes were given to the walk participants. The Deputy Commissioner Mr. Muhammad Ali Yogvi, was the Chief Guest of the event and submits that collaborative work between the AKDN, Communities and Government had reduced drug abuse significantly.
