The environments in which you will be working in the months and years to come will not be static, but be ever changing. I know your educational experience at AKS has prepared you well for the journey you are embarking on.”

Aga Khan School (AKS) in Osh convened its second graduation ceremony on May 24. The 44 graduates of AKS were honored at a ceremony attended by representatives of government, international organizations, civil society, proud families and friends. Amongst the many guests were Governor of Osh Oblast Aaly Karashev, Osh city Mayor Jumadyl Isakov, parliamentarian Baktybek Beshimov, Advisor of Minister of Culture, Mairam Yusupova, representatives from Diplomatic Missions – Head of EC Delegation for the KR, Joerg Ketelsen, Deputy US Ambassador, Earl Litzenberger and Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) Representative for Kyrgyzstan, Nurjehan Mawani, AKDN told AKIpress.

Under the aegis of Aga Khan Education Services, an AKDN agency, AKS opened its doors to students in 2002. In 2006 AKS offered two mediums of instruction (English and Russian) to 490 students. This year 550 students have been studied in AKS.

The first graduation of AKS last year was very successful – all of 39 graduates received admission to universities, 11 of whom entered international post-secondary institutions. The second graduation, which amounts to 44 graduates, has also set a high standard. Two graduates of the 11th form became the winners of the Republican Olympiad – Arzaim Ryskulova (Kyrgyz language and literature – 2 place) and Aigerim Karabekova (English language – 2 place), who has already been invited to study at Jacobs University Bremen in Germany and at Smith College Northhampton, Massachusetts, USA. Nine pupils became the winners of the regional Olympiads (first and second places), two were the regional debate programs’ winners, three pupils of the 11th grade are studying by ACCELS program, four became the winners of the town and republican sport contests such as swimming and tennis.

This is what the teacher of Russian language and literature, Lyubov Nikolaevna Kurmaeva is saying about her graduates: “They have studied here for six years and carried out the school’s traditions with dignity. Throughout this time openness and the joy of communication, love towards school and creativity, continuous search, unity of teacher and student have helped us.”

Three students from three different rayons of Osh Oblast are on AKS scholarship. One of them, Mariam Smailova from Uzgen, a graduate of this academic year, shared her opinion: “Admission to Aga Khan School in Osh city turned out to be a defining point in my life. I acquired a chance to get an excellent educational experience which has led me to determine my future choice of profession.”

Parents were also anxious to congratulate the graduates and express their feelings. The parents of graduate Emil Begimkulov said the following: “We believe that the graduates will take the best they have received within the precincts of the school: deep knowledge, love and warmth of their teachers. Not reckoning with time and health, the teachers have invested in pupils everything that would help them become genuine human beings.”

Last Bell ceremony, devoted to the closing of the academic year was accompanied by a concert program prepared by students and consisting of theatrical, dance and vocal performances. The performance highlighted AKS’s extra-curricular clubs which enrich and develop student talents and other skills.

In congratulating the graduates, the AKDN Representative, Mrs. Mawani had a special message for them: “Learning is a lifelong endeavour. The environments in which you will be working in the months and years to come will not be static, but be ever changing. I know your educational experience at AKS has prepared you well for the journey you are embarking on.”
