Iran has started a 45-day archeological excavation at the historical site of Qiz Qaleh near the city of Saveh in Markazi province.
The excavation team, headed by Esmail Sharahi, will explore and fence the area, gather information, and collect discovered items.
Qiz Qaleh is placed in the Qareh Daq Mountain, 35 kilometers to the south west of the city of Saveh.
The 1-hectare area includes an Ismaili castle and an ancient cemetery.
A number of ceramics dating back to the 4th and 5th millennia before Christ have also been found in an ancient village to the north of the castle.
The team hopes to unravel the mysteries concerning the life of the people in the region by conducting further archeological and anthropological studies.
