AKES organizes six day Participatory Project Planning and Management training workshop

Nazims undergo training

The Aga Khan Education Service Pakistan, Chitral under its Capacity Development & Linkages with Government (CDLG) component organized six day training workshop on Participatory Project Planning & Management in Pakistan Academy for Rural Development, Academy town, Peshawar for Union Council Nazims from Chitral from May 28, 2007 to June 02, 2007.

The training was attended by Zilla Naib Nazim, Tehsil Nazim and Tehsil Naib Nazim Lower Chitral, 18 nazims and 5 lady District Councilors. The objective of the training was to provide the nazims an opportunity to further enhance their skills and knowledge in participatory project planning and management. The training programme was also aimed at providing the nazims practical exposure to national level institutions working in leadership and management and rural development. The training provided good forum to discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with the present devolved local government system. The nazims also engaged in group discussions and came up with recommendations for further strengthening of the local government system.

The module of the course included themes such as Participatory Planning Approaches & Community Mobilization, Participatory Planning in Islamic Perspective, Project Planning Cycle and Planning Machinery in Pakistan, Attitudinal and Behavioral Barriers to Participatory Planning, Motivation & Team Building, Participatory Rural Appraisal, Participatory Planning through CCBs and Capital Budgeting Techniques for Participatory Projects at Local Level. A panel discussion was also held on the topic Post Devolution Local Level Planning-Problems and Solutions� . Senior government officers from District Charsada, District Peshawar and N.W.F.P Local Council Board participated in the discussion.

Another important part of the training programme was visit to the secretariat of the City District Government, Peshawar where in the Assembly Hall, Haji Ghulam Ali, Nazim City District Government, Peshawar and other nazims from Peshawar and nazims from Chitral exchanged ideas and engaged in question/answer session with regard to the issues and challenges faced by their respective governments. Haji Ghulam Ali advised the nazims from Chitral that through determination, hard work, unity and by investing more on education and communication, we can make progress in the years ahead.

Haji Maghfirat Shah, Zilla Nazim Chitral was the chief guest in the concluding session of the course and awarded certificates to the participants. Speaking on the occasion he thanked AKES,P Chitral for organizing such a good programme for nazims and exhorted the nazims that they should try their best to utilize theoretical knowledge in practical work environment so that maximum benefits are obtained from limited resources
