Visited my friends Azlim and Shahiroz, who’d invited me to see Chahar Bagh, an Ismaili art and cultural exhibition, at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown.
I first met Azlim back around 1989, through a local computer club. We were both young guys energized by the possibilities of technology and keen to learn and apply it to further personal spiritual or artistic goals.
At Chahar Bagh, I felt enlivened by the singing of the youth choir, and fascinated by the examples of “cultural pluralism” in painting, photography and sculpture. This brief exposure to some of the philosophy and values of the Vancouver Shia Ismaili community impressed me greatly.

Just a little correction – The Spelling Chahar is derived from original Farsi pronounciation which declined to gujarati char.
It is basically one garden (not four) intersected by 2 water channels culminating in a fountain in the middle.
The word ‘Paradise” is derived from ancient persian word which meant Garden

Bagh (Garden), Golestan/Gulistan (rose or any flower Garden) or Bustan ( Garden) Tarzi are linguistic substratum of Indo Iranian languages just as the two root words from old Persian has come to be known as Paradise today and The Arabic word for Garden, Jannah or (Rawdah and Wadi config) The Garden have been symbolic in many culture and religions perhaps as far back as 3,000-4,000 years
Sufis see such places where upon a mystic is able to reach a state of ecstasy in Bagh e Allahi
what is the symbol of Fountain or is it symbolic ? as a metaphor “fountain of Light” “fountain of Life” “fountain of knowledge” etc do you Know Amin?

Char Bagh means four parts, as many as the world’s directions or the basic elements of the ancient Islamic gardens in Persia and India. Char Bagh is an important element of the Andalusian Islamic architectural tradition. The calm athmosphere transmits a spiritual tranquility, leading us to the passage from the external to the internal world.
