Tehran, 15 April 2007 (CHN Foreign Desk) — Meimand village historical site has been invited by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to take part in training workshop of this Institute which will be held in its Hiroshima office. 30 historic sites in Asian-Pacific region have been invited by UNITAR to take part in its training workshops in an attempt to promote the management in these historical sites and protect them against possible damages.

3000-year-old Meimand historical-natural site is s rocky village in the Iranian central province of Kerman. It is one of the most unique historical villages in the world, where ancient traditions are still observed in life of its inhabitants. They still talk to their local language of Kiche which includes Pahlavi-Sassanid words. The houses of the village, standing at a height of 2200 meters with no windows and chimneys, have been made without using the modern materials. Its residents are mainly involved in cattle breeding and agriculture.

Meimand’s project with the subject of “introducing restoration methods and design of the historical texture of Meimand” has been also accepted by Aga Khan Foundation, which presents one of the most outstanding awards in architecture, to take part in its architecture competition.
