Development of backward areas reviewed in Pakistan

KARACHI, March 28: Chief Secretary Sindh Shakil Durrani has directed relevant officials to stabilize institutional arrangements in health and education departments, so that standard health and education facilities could be provided to the people of backward areas in Sindh.

He issued these directives while presiding over a high-level meeting at his office on Wednesday.

In view of mutual understanding reached between Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Prince Karim Aga Khan, the meeting decided to benefit from the steps taken by the Sindh government and Aga Khan Council for Pakistan for the provision of health and education facilities in the backward areas of Sindh.

The health and education secretaries were asked to submit a report in this regard to the chief secretary so that a strategy could be devised to improve health and education standard in the backward areas of Sindh.

Meanwhile Dr Yasmeen Rashid, chief of Pani Pakistan, a social organization, called on the chief secretary at his office and discussed with him water awareness programme.

They discussed arrangements to launch awareness walks involving students to inform people about safe use of water.

The secretary education was directed to establish contact with relevant district officials and present programmes so that steps could be taken to provide clean drinking water to people
