Expansion of Diamond Trust in East Africa

Diamond Trust Bank Group is planning to significantly expand its branch network across East Africa, over the next three years.

And the bank has added Nairobi’s busy shopping malls to its shopping list for new sites due to their high traffic volumes. Speaking during the launch of its sixth local branch at Tesco Supermarket, on Tom Mboya street, managing director Nasim Devji said that the move will open the way for the diversification of its product offering to the market.

The new branch will be open throughout the week, including public holidays.

Some of the new branches to be opened will also have automated teller machines (ATMs). The Diamond Trust Bank Group also has branches in Dar-es-Salaam, Mwanza and Arusha in Tanzania and in Kampala, Uganda. Diamond Trust Bank is an affiliate of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), the economic development arm of the Aga Khan Development Network.

Amongst the bank’s key shareholders are Habib Bank Limited (an AKFED subsidiary) and the International Finance Corporation, a branch of the World Bank.
