Coastweek — The Association of Madrassa Kenya (A.M.K.E.) is a registered Community Based Organisation that brings together member pre-schools that graduated from the Madrasa Early Childhood Programme-Kenya (MECP-K).
MECP-K is a non-profit organization operating under the auspices of the Aga Khan Foundation.
Established in the 1980’s, MECP-K works with the focus of promoting quality ECD services.
Therefore, MECP-K facilitates training programmes for pre-primary school teachers, School member committees and parents.
Also, MECP-K provides the graduate schools with material support through small grants towards pre-school repairs and maintenance, resourcing teaching and learning environment as well as feeding programmes. More than 100,000 children and 4,000 ECD teachers have directly benefitted from the MECP-K programme work.
On Saturday, 2nd April 2016, A.M.K.E. held its 16th Annual meeting attended by representatives from its 51 member pre-schools from Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa Counties.
A.M.K.E. was greatly encouraged by the participation of MECP-K National Board represented by the Board Chairman Ms. Narmin H. Somji in this Meeting.
The theme of this year’s meeting was ‘Continuity and Sustainability of the pre-schools’; Ms. Narmin in her remarks reiterated the need to work together as a team to improve the quality of education for the children in the pre-schools.
