Arif Virani has won back the riding of Parkdale-High Park for the Liberals, maintaining a small but steady lead over high-profile NDP incumbent Peggy Nash in the close race.
Virani, 43, spoke fiercely about the need for changes in immigration and refugee policies.

“If your government was in power in 1972 when I was fleeing religious persecution, I would not be here,” he said during a heated exchange with Conservative candidate Ian Allen.
He also raised serious concerns about recent controversial Conservative legislation, including anti-terrorism and citizenship legislation.
A multilingual Ismaili Muslim who came to Canada as a refugee from Uganda, Virani is a human rights and constitutional lawyer who works for the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General. He lives in Roncesvalles Village with his wife and two children.
Virani, who began campaigning in February, was buoyed by the 525-vote victory New Democrat MPP Cheri DiNovo saw in the 2014 provincial election.
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau paid Virani a visit six days before the election.
