Dr. Farida Virani, guest speaker at Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology - MumbaiJuly 3rd 2014 VESIT, approved by AICTE and affiliated to Mumbai University is recognized as one of the premier Engineering Colleges in Mumbai. As an initiative to enable faculty keep abreast with the latest trends. Continuing with this trend, VESIT organized a 2 week ISTE approved STTP on SMAC (Social, Mobile, Analytic, and Cloud).

Dr. Farida Virani was invited as an expert management academician who addressed the topic, ‘Managing Social Media at work’. Her presentation focused on how social media is blurring the lines between people’s professional and personal life. This brings a set of HR issues that range from productivity setbacks to bringing an organization into ill-repute. Conversely, it also brings opportunities – especially in the area of employee engagement and branding which can have a positive effect on a company’s bottom line. She explained how global and national corporate have successfully used social media for various HR functions (recruitment, selection, performance management etc) and about the company polices on the use of social media. Her presentation was peppered with a lot of real life examples from corporate India and global companies which made it interesting.
