Stanley Park’s Lumberman’s Arch became a global village Sunday as the World Partnership Walk raised almost $2 million for global poverty while educating participants about countries benefiting from donations.
About 8,000 participants, many who have been attending since the event began in 1980, laced up for the five kilometre walk around the seawall.
“It’s one of the only organizations where 100 per cent of the profits go to the places, not just a certain amount,” said Roxy Janmohamed, 14, whose family has been participating for 11 years.
The event is organized by the Aga Khan Foundation, a non-profit agency that supports social development programs in Asia and Africa. The walk supports projects in the areas of health, water, economic development and women and children.
