Challenging Ismaili Volunteers in Communities (CIVIC) is a youth based program that focuses the energy of young Ismaili Muslims towards improving the wellbeing of the communities in which they live.
The Ismaili Muslim youth of British Columbia showed not only compassion towards their neighbours by pairing with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, but also towards Mother Nature in efforts to enhance the environments within which they live.
Working with the Great Canadian Shoreline Clean Up, a grass roots conservation initiative that focuses on promoting clean shorelines, Ismaili Muslim youth undertook the large effort to clean up Garry Point Park. “We found shoes, socks, signs, and other debris in open areas where children and family would be around,” said Nadim Valliani, a volunteer from CIVIC, which shows the obvious need to ensure a clean and safe environment for B.C. families wanting to enjoy the park.
