Sanjhi, the ritualistic craft of paper-cutting with its roots in Mathura and Vrindavan forms the basis of the initiative led by Aga Khan Foundation. The intricate jaali patterns found in the ruins of Humayun’s Tomb and Chausath Khamba that adorn the notebooks, lampshades, wall hangings and greeting cards are flying off the shelves, insists Deeti Ray, Programme Officer – Cultural Revival, Aga Khan Trust for Culture. As part of the Aga Khan Trust For Culture’s Urban Renewal project, which aims to protect the rich heritage of Humayun’s Tomb — Sunder Nursery — Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti, it has imparted the necessary skills to the women inhabitants of the vicinity.
